"With my first pregnancy, I had a doula, and I truly believe she was a huge part of why I had such a positive birth experience. My pregnancy was high-risk, and there were a lot of things that my medical team talked to me about that felt scary and overwhelming at the time.
My doula helped me feel informed instead of afraid. She taught me to ask questions like, "What are my options?" and "What are the risks and benefits of each?" Every time my medical team wanted me to make a decision, I felt like I actually understood what I was deciding and why. That made such a difference in how empowered I felt throughout my birth.
She supported my husband too, which I think is something people don't always realize doulas do. He felt more confident knowing that we had someone there who could help us understand what was happening and support both of us through it.
Looking back, I truly believe that having a doula changed my entire experience. I went into a high-risk pregnancy feeling scared about so many of the things I had been told could happen, but I left feeling strong, informed, and incredibly empowered. I'm so grateful I had that support."

"My doula was like having an angel on Earth with me for the toughest, most beautiful day of my life. I chose to go unmedicated and have the least interventions possible, and my doula helped me achieve this. She advocated for me, used pain management techniques on me, kept me hydrated and nourished, supported my husband and coached him so that he was able to be part of my birthing team, and cheered me on every step of the way. She helped my baby get into position, and took beautiful photos during labor and birth that we will cherish forever. I cannot imagine doing it without her!"

"When I found out I was pregnant with my third child and started envisioning my birthing plan the thought of hiring a doula came to mind. I knew this would be my last child and I wanted to feel empowered by this birth. I had my previous two children through vaginal unmedicated births and was feeling very intimidated at the thought of doing it again, I really wanted to feel more supported this time. I can confidently say hiring a doula was the best decision I have made in a long time and my husband who had been hesitant would completely agree. Having someone support me in pregnancy was amazing, my doula talked through certain birth anxieties I was having particularly around some trauma I had. At about 34 weeks my baby was breech and my doula sent me spinning babies maneuvers to try and gave me "homework" to help flip the baby and settle her down into the correct position. My baby flipped naturally within just a few days! When it was time for labor, my water broke early and I ended up having an induction. The entire night my doula was by my side massaging me as I breathed through contractions. My husband was able to get some rest during this time (which is important because someone had to get home to our other two children eventually!). As labor progressed I was constantly moved into new positions, subtle tweaks that help open the pelvis, loosen fascia, etc. Being my third I knew how painful things could get and I am still shocked at how less painful this birth was compared to my previous two. Being coached into the right positions, having a cheerleader in my ear, made all the difference. I am forever grateful to our doula and am so glad we made the decision to hire her."
